NEW YORK, May 6, 2013Affect, a PR and social media firm specializing in technology, healthcare and professional services, and Strutta, an interactive promotions company offering an intuitive contest builder, today announced Megan Hartwick as the winner of The New York Job Project, a contest searching for Affect’s newest Account Coordinator.

Megan Hartwick, a senior at Hofstra University, submitted a compelling entry that included reference to her internship and on-campus PR experiences. Megan initially became a semi-finalist by attracting 524 votes cast by the public and judges. She moved on to become one of three finalists after impressing the five judges in Skype interviews. Last week, Megan arrived in New York for final in-person interviews with the Affect team. After a writing test and successful interviews, Megan was offered a full-time position following her May 2013 graduation and named winner of The New York Job Project.

“It was inspiring to see such a cohesive team made up of individuals who truly are passionate about what they do,” said Hartwick. “I am excited and honored for the opportunity to join Affect.”

“This year, we were particularly impressed by the caliber of the candidates who entered The New York Job Project,” said Sandra Fathi, president, Affect. “The contest is designed to allow entrants to showcase their PR and social media skills – and we truly saw that this year, especially with social media. Megan impressed us with her entry, however, she won over the judges and the Affect team with her professionalism and enthusiasm in her interviews.”

Launched in 2011 originally as The New York Intern Project, The New York Job Project challenges students who dream of starting a career in PR and social media to submit creative video or photo entries showcasing why they would make the ideal Affect employee. The entrants are then asked to demonstrate their PR and social media skills to garner enough votes, both from the public and judges, to earn their place as one of the top six semi-finalists.

This year’s judges included Tiffany Guarnaccia, senior director of communications at Huffington Post Media Group, Mark Ragan, CEO and publisher of and and Lea-Ann Germinder, president of PRSA-NY and founder and president of Germinder & Associates Inc. Sandra Fathi, president and founder of Affect, and Katie Creaser, vice president of Affect, also served as contest judges.

The New York Job Project was powered by Strutta’s Contest Builder platform, which allows companies to create a promotion where users participate by uploading content such as videos, photos, audio or text. This format allows for easy sharing and voting.
