Comprehensive Medication-Assisted Treatment, to Help You Feel Better Faster

Medications often help in treating alcohol withdrawal or drug cravings as people stop or reduce drinking and drugs.  Affect’s licensed providers work closely with you to figure out what’s really going on—physically, mentally, and emotionally—and recommend treatment that fits.

We combine medication, counseling, peer support, and science-backed tools into a personalized care plan that supports your full recovery. Known to some as medication-assisted treatment (MAT), this “whole-patient” approach can be very effective in helping people sustain recovery.

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers.

  • There is no FDA-approved medication to treat stimulant use disorders like methamphetamine use disorder, but some medications have shown effectiveness in helping manage withdrawal or cravings, such as mirtazapine and bupropion. Our care team will make recommendations specific to your needs.

  • Physical withdrawal from opioids and stimulants is very uncomfortable, but almost never life threatening. The physical withdrawal of a heavy drinker who stops suddenly can be fatal. Medically supervised withdrawal management may be necessary as the body processes toxins, a process often referred to as “detox.” Your care team will help build a plan for you and ensure you’re safe.

  • As your brain adjusts to a lack of alcohol and drugs, you may experience lingering effects of withdrawal known as Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS). Certain medications can reduce the risk of relapse and make people more comfortable if they experience depression, anxiety, or other effects. This helps while the brain regains the clarity needed to make progress through counseling and behavioral treatments.

  • Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a comprehensive approach to treating substance use disorders, particularly opioid use disorder (OUD), that combines medications with counseling and behavioral therapies to address the physical, psychological, and social aspects of addiction. It’s a “whole-patient” approach, similar to how other chronic diseases like diabetes are managed, considering individual needs and preferences.

  • Members in our stimulant and cannabis use disorder programs hold themselves accountable by participating in weekly urine drug screens, ensuring that illicit substances are no longer being used. Each negative drug screen a member provides earns cash rewards that are immediately redeemable. This positive reinforcement helps keep members on their recovery journey and helps them stay motivated during even the toughest moments.

In addition, members in our opioid use disorder program who are prescribed buprenorphine participate in random self-administered drug screens to demonstrate adherence to the medication protocol.

  • In most states, initial appointments are available within 2 days. Medical provider appointments will be scheduled immediately after you’re admitted to the program.
