Concerns about privacy are among the biggest reasons why people don’t get treatment for mental health and substance use disorders. Affect takes privacy very seriously and provides complete protection and security for our members, people considering our program, and everyone who uses our app.
Your data is safe and secure
You are totally safe and secure when you get treatment with Affect or use our app. Your privacy is protected on every level. It is completely up to you to tell anyone that you are in treatment.
No one can see your health records
Treatment is medical care. All patient records must be kept secure and confidential by law. HIPAA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) is a federal law that protects patients’ health information and gives them rights over their health records. Providers can not share any information without patients signing releases.
No one will see you go to treatment
Because our program is delivered through our app, our members have another layer of privacy protection. They do not have to travel to local clinics where they can be seen entering or leaving, or chance any other encounters in their neighborhoods. It’s easy to attend a meeting or appointment in any private place.
No one will know you’re in treatment
Employers can not be informed when someone is receiving treatment, even when people use their company’s health insurance. Because our program is online, you won’t have to take medical leave from work to participate. Also, providers do not inform law enforcement when people get treatment for illegal substances.
No one will track or sell your data
Affect’s app does not have any ads or tracking software. We do not share or sell data to third parties. As licensed healthcare providers, this would be a violation of HIPAA. Sober apps that are not medical providers are not governed by HIPAA and may not offer the same protection.
